Like any other genre, "grindcore" has become bastardized. If you were to ask most people to name some grindcore bands, they'd name The Locust and Daughters, which arguably aren't even grindcore. Tower Of Rome is able to retain a definite grindcore sound without jumping off the diving board like The Locust and Daughters into territory that isn't even grindcore. After using the word grindcore already six times, let me attempt to describe the sound to you. The drumming is REALLY fast; blast beats and double kicks are definitely plentiful. The guitars are metallic and also fast. The screaming for the most part sounds like a screamier Locust, but is shadowed by a lower screamer that makes the sound fuller at times. This demo reminds me of Each Individual Voice Is Dead by As The Sun Sets, without all that guitar doodling that would later become Daughters. Hopefully Tower Of Rome won't turn into a Daughters rip off band, but from the sounds of this, that probably won't happen. The heavier mid tempo breakdown parts really motivate your fist to fly through your computer screen.

The liner notes while photocopied look like they were done with a typewriter, with errors covered by x's. This presentation coupled with the lyrical style is reminiscent of Orchid. The packaging is pretty fun, a manila type envelope with an image of etched tallies on the front, track listing on the back, and CD/liner notes inside. While not in your face as much as a band like Discordance Axis, this definitely still tickles your nose with a bushido blade dipped in acid. Fast and furious, but without all those lame cars.
