Canada is definitely going strong, producing excellent bands like Career Suicide and Fucked Up. Now Shook Ones rolls in out of nowhere to make even the most patriotic Americans turn their heads. If Lifetime and Kid Dynamite are two of your favorite bands, and you're constantly disappointed by the bands that say they're influenced by L/KD and end up sounding like crappy pop punk, prepare for that void to be filled. Shook Ones in fact fill that hole like a knife in an electric outlet. Their sincerity definitely shines through these four tracks, with topics of urban sprawl, growing up and more covered. The vocals are a mix between the cleanness of Kevin Seconds and the grittiness of Jason Shevchuk from Kid Dynamite. The usage of "woah"s is appreciated! The final song, "Attitude Is The Agent," rips especially hard with a head bobbing breakdown highlighted by a sample from Sixteen Candles.
When I saw Shook Ones live they played a few songs not on the demo (including an awesome Gorilla Biscuits cover) that were just as good as the demo songs if not better. Keep your eye on this band! I believe they have a 7" coming out soon.
