01. Welcome To The New Year
02. Letters Home...
03. ...Sincerely Yours
04. Escape
When I think of Minnesota I think of a mini soda. When I think of mini sodas I think of quenching thirst. Thank you drink! Now that I've heard the Regret demo all of this will change. Regret plays a style in between that of the sincere/dynamic Modern Life Is War and the metallic/melodic Hope Conspiracy.
Vocals by Matt sound like what would happen if you continuously bottled up feelings then one day exploded. Lyrics are written in a progressive hardcore style, for example this excerpt from "Welcome To The New Year”: "You fold your arms, and guard your words/And face another year in this empty fucking world/I close my eyes and turn away from the fucking lie/It's just another year I'm sleeping through." In the same song, Dan provides heavy bass lines while guitar players Casey and Sean do more uplifting/epic harmonies. The guitar lead at 2:30 provides some righteous melodic triumph. Where MLIW would continue to rise, Regret breaks it down for some terminal mosh. Whereas "Welcome To The New Year" (my favorite song on the demo) has punk beats, "Letters Home..." slows things down for a more heavy feel. This song is similar to MLIW's "War," although it's twice as long, which drags on. The other two songs are similar to "Welcome To The New Year," with faster beats and a heavy/epic guitar sound.
If heavier hardcore sounds too tough and melodic hardcore sounds too boring, Regret is the perfect in-between by combining both styles in an interesting/progressive manner. You can listen to them while drinking mini soda if you so wish.
