Clocking in at an average speed of 35 MPH, The Critic releases a demo just in time to make the green light. If they went any faster they would’ve hit the preceding red light, any slower and they would’ve hit the ensuing red light. This speed is caused by their large variety of influences put into a five-song speedometer. Take, for instance, the first track, which moves into a melodic-singing interval connecting two sections, while the fourth song features both a heavy mosh breakdown and an instrumental part, which recalls many a post rock band. The wheels on this vehicle are definitely American Football-influenced, but also combine Orchid oil with Tristeza gasoline--not to mention a slight touch of Funeral Diner emanating from the air freshener.

As a driver of a motor vehicle, you’re thinking to yourself, “A combination like this would prove fatal!” Stacey Chronicles…assuming Stacey Chronicles is your name…..this time you are fucking wrong. While in most cases such a potent combination would result in paralyzation or instant death. And although, yes, under the wrong hands this unstable mutant organism could rupture the space-time continuum, but--under the right ones--you have yourself one enjoyable listening experience. For fans of melody, headbanging and everything in between what we got here is a wet daydream.

The track that sums it all up, “The Truth About Dreaming,” has a real solid feel to it. You start off with a chill ass beat whilst tying your shoes at a relaxed pace. Out of the corner of your eye at 1:05 you notice your supreme loved one’s house across the bridge on fire and at 1:11 the double kick kicks in as your feet kick themselves off at a sprint. You begin screaming at the fire, “Please fire, go away! We really don’t want you! If we did, we would have called you and ordered you like a pizza.” Even though your throat is aching from your forced noise (AKA screaming) at 1:40, it still doesn’t respond. Just when everything begins to fade and you feel yourself entering Dimension X, at 2:42, you collapse. All fades to silence. All that remains is a solitary echo in your skull. Without any notice at 3:00 your body explodes in flames and the internal phoenix is released! You fly with all that is swift into the defiant fire that opposes you. With the little power you have installed you strike it down and spit in its face. The song is over…but your immortal soul remains!
