Nadya Tolokonnikova and Maria Alekhina of Pussy Riot have launced an independent news service in Russia named Mediazona. The editorial focus of the new organization will be on courts, law enforcement, and the prison system in Russia and will work in conjunction with their prisoners rights organization Zona Prava (“Justice Zone”), launched earlier this year. Russian political journalist Sergey Smirnov will serve as editor-in-chief.
