Book combines 1940s-1950s prisons and music

A new book/CD package titled Parchman Farm: Photographs and Field Recordings was released earlier this month on Dust-to-Digital. The project includes a 124-page hardcover book along with 77 photographs and 2 CDs of music and images compiled in 1947, 1948, and 1959 by folklorist Alan Lomax in behind the scenes documentation at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman. The music includes a combination of spirituals and work songs.

The set also includes essays by  Lomax, Anna Lomax Wood, and Bruce Jackson.
