These Arms Are Snakes Announce Breakup

Click here for more Splits stories Posted by Michael on Tuesday 12th January, 2010

Seattle-based post-hardore outfit These Arms are Snakes have announced their breakup after seven year together as a band.  The band issued the following statement concerning their end:

It's with a heavy heart we tell you that These Arms Are Snakes is no more. It's been a great run and we'd like to send out a very hearty "Thank You" to everyone that we've worked with or anyone that we've toured with; anyone that lent us a floor, towed our van and / or trailer, lent a van, given us a listen, downloaded our records prior to their coming out, bought our shit, or asked us where our band name came from; everyone who cooked us food, made habanero-infused tequila, had a safety meeting with us, let Steve gyrate all over you, had to live with any of us, made us pay shitloads of money to get off your punk label, got us into LOST, found Steve drunkenly wandering the streets of Tokyo alone, played Madlibs in the van (plural nouns), lost money promoting one of our shows, took Chris to the hospital, put up with our drunken sorry asses, got into a fight with us, etc. etc.  This band could not have been possible without all of you. We sincerely thank you.

These Arms are Snakes' last two full-lengths, 2006's Easter and 2008's Tail Swallower & Dove were rated by myself as the top album's of their respective years.  The band's first full-length, Oxeneers or The Lion Sleeps When Its Antelopes Go Home, was also highly regarded in 2004 - as was the remainder of their catalog.  The band's breakup is one that is met with great sadness.  Not only was These Arms are Snakes' recording output always of top quality, but their live show was even more impressive and always highly entertaining.  Today is truly a sad day; especially since I was hoping for a new LP in 2010.

The Banner Calls It Quits

Click here for more Splits stories Posted by Michael on Tuesday 12th January, 2010

New Jersey hardcore outfit The Banner have announced their breakup after a decade as a band.  Frontman Joey Southside had this to say of the breakup:

Alright as I'm sure you may have guessed The Banner is embarking on our Swan song. Theres no drama or nothing its just we pretty much did everything I wished to do and I'd like to bow out as gracefully as we are capable (yeah, I know, but for us this is as graceful as youre gonna get.) We're gonna play a last show at the end of the year. I'm not sure of exactly when someone could nail down a start date of this band but it was 1999-2000 so the end of 2010 will be at least ten years and ten years/6 records is something I can move on feeling ok about.

So before the end of the year were gonna play other shows around the area and do a few things so I can square away the lingering financial obligations and make a clean break.

If you want to book us somewhere that involves flying or touring to get to, unless you plan on paying for us to fly there (and if you are the fuck is wrong with you?), it ain't happening.

Gonna be working on final EP of sorts that will ideally be out before the last show, Wondering who is gonna put it out? NOBODY, I begged and pleaded but everybody was 'too busy.' If I can gather enough funds after paying for recording I'll press it myself but lets face it...probably not gonna happen. No, looks like the last album will be coming out on Mediafire Records, but that's chill too.

The group last released Frailty in 2008.

Hostage Life Announce Breakup

Click here for more Splits stories Posted by Michael on Friday 6th November, 2009

Canadian punk outfit Hostage Life have announced that they are breaking up following one final show. The band issued the following statement:

The last Hostage Life show ever will take place at Sneaky Dee's on November 20th. This may seem like it is coming out of left field, but one of us had some personal problems that needed to be taken care of and the rest of the band decided it would be better to break up than to continue a man short. Thanks to everyone that helped, watched, hated, loved, and listened.

Armor For Sleep Announce Breakup

Click here for more Splits stories Posted by Michael on Friday 30th October, 2009

Armor for Sleep have announced their breakup.  The band released a two albums through Equal Vision Records and one with Sire Records during the tenure.  Frontman Ben Jorgensen issued a lengthy statement here; here is an excerpt:

It's been a little over a year since our last tour and some of you out there have kind of figured out whats been going on with us. We never wanted to burden you all with a formal announcement of any kind and cause some type of commotion- we just thought it would be better to kind of drift away nice and easy… I am writing this strictly speaking for myself and I honestly don't really know how PJ Anthony and Nash will react to me being the one to write this, but I feel like it should come from me because ultimately it was me who decided it was best to leave things where they were.

Animosity Announces Breakup

Click here for more Splits stories Posted by Michael on Tuesday 20th October, 2009

Bay Area-based technical metal outfit Animosity have officially announced their breakup.  The band last released the full-length Animal in 2007.  Frontman Leo Miller had this to say of the group's dissolution:

You have never seen us rest this long. For those of you wondering about Animosity, you are correct to have assumed that we disbanded. It has been nearly a year since all five of us were in a room (or the same state) together. In this time, we have written zero songs and played zero shows. In short, nothing happened which I mean to say plainly and clearly. We are all still alive and friends, but following our last tour we just did nothing band related. Many of us grew up in this band, and for me personally, Animosity was somehow prioritized over everything including my very own life. This band formed our communities, relationships, experiences and the lens through which we view the world. Eight years later, I look back to being 14 years old playing Animosity shows in garages and backyards and I can honestly say that our musical and experiential goals have been exceeded in ways that once seemed impossible to me. If you haven't gotten enough of Animosity, please rest assured that we have.

This is not to say, that everyone is gone from music. In the time since our last show, Navene finished his spectacular debut solo album called Fleshrot – dementia/dyslexia. Navene wrote played and recorded all the music himself and features beastly vocals from Jonny Davy. Check out the project here and stay posted for album release info. Also, Navene has teamed up with Tosin Abasi and is drumming in their new band Animals As Leaders. Chase also has a new band called Son of Arelius from which you can expect a full-length album out soon. New music from Evan and Frank can be anticipated in various different forms. As for me, I moved out east to study the environment.

To Animosity fans worldwide, thank you for doing this with us, it was an awesomely epic journey. Be well!

Let Me Run Replace Vocalist / Sign To Paper + Plastick

Click here for more Splits stories Posted by Michael on Thursday 15th October, 2009

Let Me Run have announced that they parted ways with vocalist and guitarist Travis Omilian over the Summer. The band have found a replacement in the form of Dan Maxwell.  The band had this to say of their changes:

The addition of Dan into the band has given us a seriously new direction. After we released Meet Me at the Bottom we weren't really pleased with the outcome. Nothing sounded like we wanted it to. We loved the songs, but they seemed oversaturated.  With Dan now, there's more of openness and collaborative feeling with writing these songs. They are hashed out and streamlined until everyone is happy with the outcome. It’s reinvigorated some of our material off of MMATB. Since our first practice with Dan, I've never heard "Shane" played better. It's great.  As for Travis leaving the band, I really am not going to dive into why he left or what he told us or anyone else about the situation. It's really no one’s business but ours and his.  But there is no situation anymore, we've moved on and are better off because of it.

In other news, the band will be heading into The Machine Shop in November to record a new EP for release on Paper + Plastick Records. The album is currently slated for an early 2010 release.  You can hear a demo version of a new song titled "Scared as Shit" here.

Let Me Run released the full-length effort Meet Me at the Bottom via XOXO Records earlier this year.

The Steal Announce Breakup

Click here for more Splits stories Posted by Michael on Tuesday 15th September, 2009

UK melodic hardcore outfit The Steal have announced that they will be breaking up after their next show; the final show is scheduled to take place on this Friday, September 18th.  The band issued the following statement concerning their disbanding:

So. We had our first practice in 8 months last Sunday and it went well, the cobwebs were well and truly dusted off, the cogs were greased and my hands were bleeding by the end... friday should be good fun. Also, in between bouts of tea, coffee and discussing the finer points of Dave's magical prowess we decided that friday would be the last gig we play as the Steal. We think it's a nice end being at the Peel, where we played our first gig 4 years ago. Also playing with Paint It Black, whose member's current and past exploits were a primary influence on us playing the music we do, is a nice touch. We think the band has come to it's natural end and we wanted to give people a heads-up if they wanted come see us one last time. Thanks.

Battle Of Mice Announce Breakup

Click here for more Splits stories Posted by Michael on Thursday 3rd September, 2009

Neurot Recordings artist Battle of Mice have announced their breakup.  The band issued the following statement concerning their passing:

After two critically acclaimed releases, Battle of Mice has been officially and amicably dissolved. Never before has the story of a violent, interpersonal flameout been so aurally documented. It was intense while it lasted, but we should all be thankful that the band has ended; not with a bang, but with a whimper.

What the future holds: The full length vinyl may still make an appearance sometime next year. We are waiting for the final word on that one. Julie Christmas is currently working on a solo record, be on the lookout. The record features almost an entirely different lineup on each song, featuring many special guests. Josh Graham's new band, A Storm of Light, has a new release coming out September 2009. The record is called Forgive Us Our Trespasses, and features Jarboe, Nerissa Campbell, Lydia Lunch, and more. Joel Hamilton and Tony Maimone are both working on the next Book of Knots record. Both are recording madmen as well. Joel recorded and plays on A Storm of Light's record, and just finished recording the new Black Keys album. Joe Tomino has been on tour with his band Dub Trio, as well as playing with many others including Mike Patton.

That is about it. Be Well. Sleep and Dream.

These past few years have been nothing short of amazing, and I wouldn't change a single thing. Thank you to anyone who ever supported this band. First off, I want to apoligize to everyone else in No Harm Done. I have been losing touch with you, and at the same time I have become more bitter. I take full responsibility for everyone's discontent. I realize we will never agree on certain things, and that's ok. I'm glad this ended the way it did.
