These guys were incredibly hyped a little over a year ago when they had their demo out. However, then they were known as The Heist and their 7" was about to come out on Dead By 23 Records. Then they had to change their name, their record was delayed, and everything seemed to sort of die down for them. When the 7" finally came out, it was good, but you could tell they were capable of creating more, and Still Sick proves just that.

When I first heard a few of the mp3s before the record came out I knew this was going to be leagues ahead of the 7". The song structures are much more complete, and less sloppy. Even the two or three songs that they re-did for this record sound a lot fuller, and less bare.

I am finding it sort of hard to describe Scraps And Heart Attacks' sound. They are fast, don't have mosh parts (which is the main reason I think they aren't as popular as they should be), and have lyrics similar to that of Give Up the Ghost (American Nightmare) and Suicide File, without sounding contrived at all. I actually really like the lyrics on this record and find them to be one of the high points.

I think if Scraps And Heart Attacks keep going in the direction they are going, more people will take notice. Every person I know who bought this record, or reviewed it loved it. So if more people hear them, they could easily take off.

If I had to make one complaint about this record, it is that some of the songs just seem a little boring in contrast to how good some of the other songs are. The first and last track are seriously incredible, and "Don't F with S" in particular was probably my favorite hardcore song of 2003. Overall this record rips, and I can even see some of you non-hardcore fans liking it. If you like Give Up the Ghost, The Backup Plan, or the Suicide File, you will almost certainly like Scraps And Heart Attacks.

Cruel Face Of War
Unique Leader (2026)

Twelve albums and more than three decades into their career, Jungle Rot remains one of death metal's most reliable institutions. Writing memorable riffs, locking into crushing grooves, and leaving … Read more

Overcalc

Fruits of the Decision Tree
Sleeping Giant Glossolalia (2024)

Some instrumental records create atmosphere while others create movement. Fruits of the Decision Tree feels like it creates an entire environment. It’s unstable, mechanical, strangely beautiful, and constantly in motion. The solo project of Nick Skrobisz (Multicult, The Wayward), Overcalc exists somewhere between electronic experimentation, prog-level guitar precision, ambient drift, and full on sci-fi hallucination. Trying to pin it cleanly … Read more
