The Milk-Eyed Mender came out in March and has been gathering press clips like a two-ton goliath going berzerk at a post-bar mitzvah shindig. It's freaking December and I haven't written anything about this record! So, what's a distraught proto-writer to do when 'best of 04' lists start trickling in? Easy! For you lovely readers, wherever you are, check the directive:

Simply put, The Milk-Eyed Mender is one of the best records of the year. Each song manages to one-up the last, while Newsom (who, might I add in a wonderfully misogynistic display of male rock journalistic integrity, is quite the looker) is clearly a ghost from the 19th century sent back to captivate (in order to assume world domination, perhaps?) our souls with lilting, skewered pop songs about lord knows what, performed with an ethereally plucked harp and her own wonderfully eccentric vocal quirks. Think of a little girl impersonating an old woman while going through puberty.

That's it. You're not getting else out of me. I refuse to tell you anything else about The Milk-Eyed Mender and frankly, there's nothing else you really need to know. Any other information (particularly an in-depth song-by-song analysis) would ruin the magic of Newsom's songs. So, go out and pick this up, I say!
