Perturbator Returns with New Album
Perturbator Returns with New Album

...So that insanely-hyped Cyberpunk 2077 rollout was, uh, less than ideal, huh?

If you want those cyberpunk sort of vibes I would hope that game was trying to go for (and arguably achieved) without the helping of apparent (hot) mess, I could think of no better place to get them than the music of French artist James Kent, aka Perturbator, who returns with another album of dark, cinematic synth goodness in May.

Lustful Sacraments, the project's first album since 2016’s The Uncanny Valley, promises to be another wild ride, with Kent explaining: “It’s an album about bad habits, dissatisfaction and addiction. An overall look at how we, as a species, lean towards self-destruction.”

Considering the last year (or few?) that we’ve had as a human race, and where we seem perhaps to be heading, that sounds relevant. Lustful Sacraments is out May 28th via Blood Music and can be preordered here in various editions, including gatefold vinyl, gatefold picture disc, and cassette.

The Uncanny Valley
Blood Music (2016)

The Uncanny Valley pulses in high concept waves and the mastermind behind it all, Perturbator (composer James Kent), creates visual magic with naught but a synthesiser and a slick, rain-soaked neon palette. Kent has been making music as his electronic alter-ego since at least 2012, but he started out in black metal and the Frenchman carries over similar aesthetics from … Read more

DANGEROUS DAYS
Independent (2014)

If Daft Punk were commissioned to score a cyberpunk horror film of the likes of Hardware, the resulting work may sound something like what Paris musician James “Perturbator” Kent has come up with on 2014’s Dangerous Days, the latest of his four albums. Utilizing vintage synthesizer sound straight out of the Miami Vice era, Perturbator lets loose with aggressive arpeggios … Read more
