The singer of Crime Desire is dead ringer for Rasaraja/Robert Fish of 108/Judas Factor fame. So I can't help to think that Crime Desire is either a Krishna band or some post hardcore unit from the Revelation catalog in the early part of this decade. I probably couldn't be more wrong. Musically Crime Desire reminds of those type of bands you go to see and you have to leave halfway through their set because their fans are making your eyes water. Smelly people...not a fan, especially when they smell of dumpsters, wet dogs, and highway underpasses.

This twenty-nine track CD encompasses Crime Desire's latest album, two EPs, and a couple of unreleased compilation tracks. The music itself is mid-tempo somewhat metallic brooding hardcore. It's something I can tolerate for a couple of listens but cannot see myself sitting through twenty-plus tracks worth.

I really wish I could tell you more of this band besides them sounding somewhat like a unexciting version of 108 trying to play early Metallica covers at half speed. I can't read the lyrics because most of them are in the smallest font possible and printed silver on black. That kind of shit can make this old man go blind reading.

The songs are drifting by without so much of a difference to make my ears perk up. They just plod along sometimes as a mid-temp gallop or a snail crawl. Sometimes, Crime Desire reminds of late 80's Dischord with hints of melody and a rockish attitude. I got to admit the early non-LP tracks are better. Heavier and more menacing than the slow torture of the LP but still nothing I'm going to rave about.

I'm sure the folks at HeartattaCk...sorry I mean Give Me Back are probably all about this band but quite honestly Crime Desire bores me to death. There isn't enough dynamics in these songs to make me pay any real attention to them as I write this review. When they finally decide to play fast like in "Confront Them" I'm just not interested anymore. I don't think is this is caused by me going over my three reviews a day limit. This usually causes everything to blend together. Sorry I can't use that excuse, Crime Desire isn't anything exciting for me. Maybe for you, if you smell...like vegan hotdogs.

Life Is A Rape (2006)

When no one's chomping at the bit, hardcore can easily turn into comfort food. Sing-alongs, breakdowns and carefully placed "go!"s can become a security blanket. This has its place, but hardcore is often best when bands eschew the easy outs of well-worn forms and stake out fresh ground. Bands like Crime Desire are what keep the wheels turning by breaking … Read more
