Run The Jewels (El-P & Killer Mike) release "Banana Clipper" feat. Big Boi

Posted by Nathan G. O'Brien on May 31, 2013

For the last several months rap heavyweights El-P and Killer Mike have been putting the finishing touches on their collaborative project Run The Jewels.  Today the duo released the first single from the album - "Banana Clipper" featuring Outkast's Big Boi.  The two had previously worked together on two of last year's hottest rap albums.  El-P was the sole producer behind Killer Mike's R.A.P. Music, and in turn, Killer Mike dropped a few verses on El-P's Cancer 4 Cure (Both records landed on our year-end favorites list.) They then toured together in support of those albums.  Run The Jewels will be released in June for free via Fool's Gold, with another North American tour to follow.

RTJ4
Jewel Runners / BMG (2020)

It was a surprise to see Run The Jewels’ RTJ4 as Scene Point Blank’s top-billed record for all of 2020, but it demonstrates the widespread scope of its impact on many of our writers, myself included. The hip-hop duo of Killer Mike and El-P operates in their own stratum within mainstream rap, excelling far beyond their original underground roots. It’s … Read more

Fat Possum (2012)

A man such as El-P is an anomaly to say the least. To fully describe his music in genre labels or easily identifiable terminology is almost an exercise in futility as both a music fan and writer. The life long New Yorker and figurehead within the underground hip hop scene manages to make a legitimate argument for hip hop as … Read more

Nas' latest release makes the claim that hip-hop is dead. If he paid attention to the underground, he'd know the genre is not only alive and well but with a pulse fresher than ever.
