Elvis Costello and The Imposters has announced the upcoming release of a new 13-song album called The Boy Named If, scheduled for release on Jan. 14.

Via press release, Costello says, ”The full title of this record is The Boy Named If (And Other Children’s Stories).  ‘IF,’ is a nickname for your imaginary friend; your secret self, the one who knows everything you deny, the one you blame for the shattered crockery and the hearts you break, even your own. You can hear more about this ‘Boy’ in a song of the same name." The songs..."take us from the last days of a bewildered boyhood to that mortifying moment when you are told to stop acting like a child -- which for most men (and perhaps a few gals too) can be any time in the next fifty years."

Listen to the lead single, "Magnificent Hurt" below.

In 2020, Costello released Hey Clockface and La Face de Pendule à Coucou, a vinyl box set of Armed Forces, and How To Play Guitar & Y and Words & Music audible.com.

It can be kind of intimidating to just jump into the oeuvre of an artist like Elvis Costello. It's like playing Pin the Tail on the Donkey, but the wonderful old donkey has magic powers that let him move from one decade to the next - he's hard to get a handle on. Honestly, record reviews don't always help that … Read more
