Samuel Locke Ward and Mike Watt have teamed up for another collaboration, this time for a new record named Purple Plow Pie, out July 21 via Kill Rock Stars under the SLW cc Watt moniker. The record features the core duo, plus numerous special guests such as saxophonist Bob Bucko Jr, drummer Dean Clean, and guitarist Joe Jack Talcum (the latter two of The Dead Milkmen).

Locke Ward, an Iowa native, has written and recorded more than 1,000 songs and issued 60 self-released albums, including two previous collaborations with Watt. A collab with Jad Fair (Half Japanese) came out earlier this year.

Purple Pie Plow is inspired by T. Rex's mix of glam and psychedelia while exploring serious subjects. The duo has previously released Let's Build a Logjam (2021) and Real Manic Time (2022), and is already working on a fourth album.
