Amid COVID-19 shutdowns, US Senate introduces venue relief bill

Posted in Music News on August 19, 2020

With the majority of music venues shut down since spring and unable to earn income, the live music industry faces a bleak future. On Tuesday, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer announced he is co-sponsoring bipartisan legislation to help provide funding for closed independent music, comedy and theatre venues. In a related statement, The National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) said that if the shutdown lasts six months or longer without federal assistance, 90% of its members would be forced to close.

The bill, named The Save Our Stages Act (S. 4258), was introduced by Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN). Those looking to show support can visit www.saveourstages.com.
