Scene Point Blank has partnered with Dropping Bombs to share a stream of the soon-to-release In Totality by Blue Skies Burning. The LP is a 10-song retrospective of the Toledo, OH-based emotional hardcore band whose active years spanned 1999-2002. The collection was fully remastered and includes the group’s original 4-song demo plus the Last Leg of My First Race EP (originally released on One Day Savior). Comparisons run across the emo, hardcore, and metalcore scenes with similarities to As Friends Rust, Grade, and Boysetsfire.
Vocalist Scotty shares his memories:
I still vividly recall the moment when I first set voice to the music that my bandmates and I crafted. Words drawn from life, death, love, and compassion exploded forth. It was a catharsis like no other and I was hooked. For the next 2 years, Blue Skies Burning was my fountain of release. I constantly craved that joyful sense of achievement and self-creation.
We embarked on countless shows and mini-tours, forged friendships throughout the punk and hardcore scene, and were fortunate enough to document our music through a self-released demo and a CD EP for One Day Savior Recordings. Unfortunately, just when it felt like we were finally gaining some momentum as a small band from the midwest Rust Belt, Blue Skies Burning came to an abrupt end.
Seventeen years later, our dear friends at Dropping Bombs Records graciously offered to remaster our recordings and release our discography on limited edition vinyl. Upon listening to the remasters, an affirmation washed over me: Even though we were 5 unknown, rudderless misfits, our music still triggered that familiar sense of achievement and self creation. And I couldn’t be happier for us.
