Sell The Heart Records – History 101

Music / History 101 • August 3, 2025

Like most independent labels, Sell The Heart started to document a scene without really asking themselves “Where do you see yourself in 15 years?” In 2010, founder Andy Pohl was barely even thinking about vinyl. In “History 101” tradition, Scene Point Blank picked out some of the label's notable releases to get a reflection at 15 years. SPB picked out five of the albums below, and Sell The Heart chose the other five for discussion. The label is also hosting an anniversary party in San Francisco, CA in early August and will have several bands playing at FEST 23. Snipers!! Let The Wolves Eat Themselves CD* This was the very first release on Sell The Heart Records. It was also the band I was playing in at the time, so I felt it was kinda apropos to have it be the first one, haha. At the time, producing vinyl wasn't really even on my radar since CDs were still very much the go-to physical media at the time. We only pressed 100 copies of this, but they sold through pretty quickly since we had a decent local following. I'm glad we moved through them since it wasn't before too long that CDs became less popular and vinyl became the format of choice. Though I'm really proud of all of the albums that I've been part of making, this one holds a special place in my heart since we recorded and mixed it by ourselves, and it took about a year … Read more

Ava Mendoza, Gabby Fluke-Mogul & Carolina Pérez

Mama Killa
Burning Ambulance (2025)

Ava Mendoza appeared in the avant-rock scene in the '10s, and throughout the decade, she defined many works with her adventurous guitar playing and tonality. She made her mark through projects like Unnatural Ways, the trio with Tim Dahl and Sam Ospovat, and her split release with Sir Richard Bishop of Sun City Girls, Ivory Tower. Along her journeys, she … Read more

FVRMN

Suicides
Steadfast Records, Sweet Cheetah Records (2025)

Calling themselves "Fevermooon," FVRMN is led by J Holmes and Suicides is the second album in as many years. In a broad summary, I thought Back To The Whip was like a drawn out Leatherface or Jawbreaker record. Similar gruff vocals, personal lyrics, but paced with slower tempos and longer songs. Jumping to the present, Suicides has captured the tone … Read more

Lambrini Girls

Who Let The Dogs Out
City Slang (2025)

I ramble, at length, about basically everything. Word limits fear me. My friends dnf my texts. I think I may have single handedly crashed Twitter. Straight to the point, I am not. However, in the spirit of things, I’m going to dive right in. Who Let The Dogs Out is Lambrini Girls’ first full length album. 11 tracks, 29 minutes, … Read more

Sexfaces

Bad Vibes OST
Slovenly (2025)

Best thing about writing reviews is finding out about new stuff that I otherwise might not have heard. Also writing reviews for bands that aren’t friends of mine is pretty cool but when I hear a band I really like, like Sex Faces, it makes me want to be friends with them, I can't help it! I’m not even halfway … Read more
