Copper Lung Records (Anthony Rianda)

What are your top five albums that were released in 2008?

  1. This Will Destroy You - s/t
  2. The Effort - Iconoclasm
  3. Capsule - Blue
  4. Algernon Cadwallader - Some Kind of Cadwallader
  5. No Age - Nouns

What band did you discover in 2008 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?

Capsule. "Blue" is the most intense, chaotic, heavy, emotional record I've heard in a long, long time.

How will you remember 2008? (In terms of music)

I put out some records and a few people actually bought them!

Vinyl record sales saw a significant increase this year while hard copy sales continued to dwindle. Is this a return to the glory days for vinyl or just a phase? Explain.

Now that music is becoming easier to get for free on the Internet, I think the people who actually want to support bands and labels are opting for a more interesting format than the disposable, cheap plastic CD that is basically used once to transfer the songs to an iPod. I personally choose to buy vinyl exclusively when I can because it feels more special in a way and sometimes the novelty of limited colors and such can be fun. Vinyl has outlasted every other music format and I'm sure within a few years compact discs will go the way of the cassette tape.

What was the most memorable moment for you in 2008? (Can be in terms of anything)

2008 was a blur...

What can we look forward to from you in 2009?

Right now I'm working on a 7" for Teenage Cool Kids and a full-length for a band from Chicago called Oceans. They should both be out early in the year.

What three records are you looking forward to most in 2009?

I'm looking forward to the Reign Supreme and Trapped Under Ice full-lengths and the new Hope Conspiracy EP. I'll be moshing hard in '09.
