What are your top five albums that were released in 2010? (In order 1-5)
The only album that came out in 2010 that I could list is the new SWANS. I just didn't listen to much new shit this year. The SIXX record that Nuclear War Now released this year (but recorded 20 years ago) is a close second.
What band did you discover in 2010 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?
Sleepwalker from Santa Cruz (I think). I don't know much about them other than they are Fell Voices guys, and their ep is probably the thing I listened to more than anything else this year.
How will you remember 2010? (In terms of music)
2010 should be the year that I listen to music in my flying future car and that shit didn't happen so I'd say it was just another year, albeit one with a new SWANS record.
With more and more bands switching to digital methods of releasing music and communicating with audiences in 2010, do you think there's still a place for physical CDs and word-of-mouth shows in the future?
I don't think SSOS would have ever gotten the attention that it has this quickly if it weren't for things like blogs and YouTube. The way bands can share what they are doing today is nothing short of incredible. I do believe that the traditional independent record label release won't soon vanish because that is still the main way for people to be tangibly involved with the music they like. I'm talking strictly vinyl here though. Vinyl is a "permanent" format, you can't burn an LP to an LP on your laptop. CDs, I think as a format are no longer relevant precisely because they are digital. As far as shows, i'd say twitter and message boards are a form of word of mouth.
What can we look forward to from you in 2011?
Our self titled LP comes out in January on A389 records. We have a split LP planned with Children of God for sometime in 2011. Maybe a small tour. Plenty of weed smoked.
What three records are you looking forward to most in 2011?
I live in a bubble and have very little clue as to what there is to look forward to. When is that new Eyehategod coming out?
