Weezer Go Indie?

Billboard reports that Weezer have left Geffen, the label that's been their home ever since their 1994 self-titled debut, which everyone still calls The Blue Album. According to Billboard, the band made the decision to split from their longtime home in December, opting instead to "go independent," though nobody in the band has yet specified what, exactly, that might mean. Could we see Weezer signing with Kill Rock Stars or Metal Blade or Rap-A-Lot sometime in the next few months? God knows it wouldn't be the weirdest thing they've done in the past couple of years.

In the interview with Billboard, bassist Scott Shriner says that the band is working on new material: "We're always planning and scheming something. We're always working on some new music. I can't really go into any detail about that yet, but we're all writing and working on new stuff."

As for older material, the band still plans to release a deluxe edition of their 1996 cult classic Pinkerton, as well as Odds and Ends, a collection of rarities. The band has also recorded a song for the soundtrack to the forthcoming movie Shrek Forever After. And Cuomo guests on "Magic", a song from the Atlanta rapper B.o.B. It'll appear on B.o.B. Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, B.o.B.'s debut album, due in stores tomorrow.

And if that wasn't enough Weezer-related activity, the band will also play some shows this summer, mostly at festivals. Shriner reports that Cuomo is "100 percent again" after being injured in a tour bus accident last December. Weezer's itinerary is below.

04-28 West Palm Beach, FL - SunFest 04-30 College Park, MD - Byrd Stadium 05-01 Atlantic City, NJ - Borgata Event Center 05-02 East Rutherford, NJ - Bamboozle Festival 06-05 Milwaukee, WI - Verge Fest 06-11 Elizabeth, IN - Horseshoe Southern Indiana 06-12 Manchester, TN - Bonnaroo Festival 07-09 Minneapolis, MN - Basilica Block Party 07-10 Sarnia, Ontario - Rogers Bayfest 2010 07-24 Halifax, Nova Scotia - Halifax Rocks 08-01 Montreal, Quebec - Osheaga Fest 08-15 Commerce City, CO - Mile High Music Festival 08-28 Leeds, England - Leeds Festival 08-29 Reading, England - Reading Festival
