Rolling Stone is reporting that veteran rock artist Lou Reed has died. The cause is as yet unknown but Reed has reportedly been ill since undergoing a liver transplant in May.

The influential songwriter was famous for his work with the Velvet Underground as well as his solo work. He was also outspoken, particular to the media: one response to a question about his creative process was "How do I stay creative? I masturbate every day. OK?".

RIP Lou Reed: March 2, 1942 – October 27, 2013.
