Set It Straight Calling It Quits

Posted by Michael on May 25, 2007

Redding, CA hardcore outfit Set it Straight announced that they will be going their separate ways following a number of farewell tours/shows. The band released the widely praised Live Your Heart and Never Follow last year via Twelve Gauge Records. To view the full statement from the band on the impending breakup, click "read more."
Some of you may have heard, what with rumours spreading as fast as they do, that Set it Straight is breaking up. It is with a heavy heart that I have to admit, unfortunately, this is absolutely true. However, it's highly likely that most of the rumours you've heard are not. Here's the deal. Harry has reached an end to this chapter in life and is moving on to the next; being a PE teacher. From Harry: "I plan on being a teacher and obviously with that comes some schooling. I am at a point in my life where I would'nt be able to concentrate on both at the same time, school and band that is. Set it Straight has been priority one since its birth and to ask the other band members to put this band on a "back burner" would, for me, be disrespectful and wrong. I know there was small talk about possibly pushing foward with a new singer but if i'm not mistaken that idea has been discarded. To elaborate a small bit I also think that if I didnt go to school and begin what is very important to me I would be, in turn going against the very idea I sing about in our songs about finding self-happiness and making personal life changing decisions for yourself. This band has been my life for the past three and a half years and it has been some of the best times of my life, but I'll spare you the words you have heard from every other band that has broken up." It is the decision of the majority of the remaining members to not continue with a new singer. As we are not parting on bad terms, this is in no way completely set in stone forever, but for right now, and for as far as we can tell, unfortunately we are done. Everyone in this band still believes in this band, straight edge, and what we wrote about/stand for. It is a very sudden and painful thing for all of us, no one expected or wanted this band to end so soon. But here we are. We will be touring the northwest from May 25th - June 4th with a fill-in drummer (as Nate broke his hip skating). The dates are as follows: 05.25 - Redding, CA 05.27 - Seattle, WA (Rainfest) 05.28 - Olympia, WA 05.29 - Eugene, OR 05.30 - Longview, WA 05.31 - Bremerton, WA 06.01 - Courtenay, BC 06.02 - Victoria, BC 06.04 - Vancouver, BC Following this, we will be touring 5 days up California with Dangers (and a healed Nate) in early July, and ending it all with a last show in september, at 924 Gilman in Berkeley, CA. The date and lineup for that will be announced as soon as we know. Harry will still be involved with hardcore in a more limited capacity via drumming for Skeletons. In addition to Dangers, 32FPS, and Deadworld, I am starting another full-time hardcore band to pick up where SIS is leaving off, we'll have an ep out and be on tour before the end of the year. Nate and Ben will surely start another band so be on the lookout for that as well. I wouldn't even know where or how to begin thanking everyone who has been involved with this band. We have all experienced so much via Set it Straight, and the relationships we've formed with people nationwide as a direct result will last a lifetime. Thank you so much for everything.
