JAGA JAZZIST BRING THE JAGA JAZZ TO YOU

Posted by Jonathan on July 7, 2004

Jaga Jazzist are considered one of the worlds greatest jazz /electronic bands becoming something of a musical phenomenon in Norway since they started 9 years ago. Not only is this 10 piece instrumental band regarded as one of the most exciting and innovative in Norway, the members are all involved in other musical projects and have in one way or another contributed to almost every significant recording to come out of that part of the world in the last five years. It has been this strong involvement with different projects, and different musical styles and sounds, which has led to the unique sound of Jaga Jazzist. With no boundaries and instrumentation that includes trumpets, trombone, electric guitar, bass, tuba, two bass clarinets, Fender Rhodes, vibraphone and a rack of electronics, Jaga Jazzist create timeless, melodic, hypnotizing, delicate and subtle music - the perfect balance between (hu)man and machine. The band has shocked fans and critics alike with their blistering live shows and the word of mouth resulted in sold out dates all over Europe - with invites from international jazz festivals in Denmark, Germany, Poland, France, Belgium, France, United Kingdom, Spain, The Netherlands, and even Ireland. MTV Europe started picking up their video and playing it during prime time hours, The Guardian (yep the liberal leaning uk rag) placed Jaga Jazzist in their top 10 live music performances of the year (only being beaten out by Radiohead, The Roots and PJ Harvey) . Their high profile appearances and press coverage eventually lead them to be voted for "Jazz Album Of The Year" by the prestigious BBC and their listeners. Jaga Jazzist will be playing with their complete full lineup accompanied by a live video show. We highly recommend checking out Jaga Jazzist if you dig : The Notwist, Aphex Twin, Don Cherry, Stereolab, Autechre, Miles Davis, Alan Silva, Tortoise and Charles Mingus. To give you the perfect idea of where they are coming from - they are probably the only 10 piece jazz band that list NWA, The Dead Kennedys and Mars Volta alongside John Coltrane and Ennio Morricone in their influences.
