Dead Will Rise – Entrepreneur — Twelve Gauge, 2008

Dead Will Rise is one of the recent signings to Twelve Gauge Records. While the label mainly sets it focus in the hardcore world, they do also dabbled in the spectrum of death metal/grindcore. And the latter is what you get with Ohio's Dead Will Rise.

Entrepreneur is the band's second EP release, on which these upstarts blast through seven songs in just over twenty minutes. Cuts like the title-track and "Speaking in Tongues" feature a combination of crushing rhythms and slashing guitars. The drumwork is decent, but it could use more double bass, ala Dying Fetus. Factor in vocalist Jordan Holland's guttural growls and you've go the perfect recipe for any metalfest. These guys remind me of current favorites like Suicide Silence and Impending Doom.

I can see anyone into the current death metal/grindcore scene digging these guys a lot. For me this isn't anything that is new or fresh. Dead Will Rise tends to walk the line between the thrash of grindcore and the ferocity and breakdowns of metalcore, a market that is quickly becoming oversaturated.

Anyway, Split With Turnstile, besides having a great title, continues the band's garage-punk sound that draws from a deep array of influences from eggpunk to '80s hardcore while mostly … Read more

Finis Amoris Est
Red Tape Music (2026)

Breakup records usually announce themselves with a band. There is betrayal, shouting, and doors slamming shut. Finis Amoris Est, the new EP from UK post-hardcore outfit Pageant Mum, takes a different route. It’s a record about what happens after the blowup, when the noise dies down and you’re left alone with the quieter, harder questions. Across these four tracks, the … Read more
