Candle is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Kevin Coons, who expanded his solo recording project into a full band. Miles and Miles and Miles is the group's third release in as many years, and boasts a country tinged folk sound with small touches of indie rock. The album begins with "Pennies in a Well," a simple track with a multitude of instruments. It flows quite well, and the slide guitar and harmonica add a bit to the familiar melodies, although they seem a little expected.

There are a few tracks that sounded a little more original than the others, such as "8th and Pine," but the style is pretty consistent throughout the album. Not to say that the songs all sound the same, but that the different approaches are those that have already been covered. Most of the songs just sound like I'm Wide Awake It's Morning with more country influence. The songs are all well structured but none really stand out like I wish they did. If this subgenre is your jam then you might dig it more than I did.

Gary Young wasn’t just a drummer; he was a beautiful, unpredictable glitch poking a hole in the sky where other lovable misfits could enter and leave this universe they’d grace with their presence. While Hendrix kissed the sky, Young merely bit a hole right through it. While Pavement was busy inventing the 1990s slacker blueprint for the masses, Gary was … Read more

Amy Beth And Thee Creeps

Shitheel EP
Chaputa! Records (2026)

Sometimes I like to come into a record as a blank slate. Amy Beth And Thee Creeps sent me a short email with their latest EP, Shitheel. It's a 4-song garage-punk ripper that's easily under 10 minutes. I just checked: it's five and a half minutes. With no bio, the music speaks for itself and this is rhythmic, pulsing garage … Read more
