I'm confused how a band can take themselves seriously whatsoever, and have an album called Rise Of Brutality. Although Hatebreed doesn't talk about their large amount of bitches they are keeping in check or forties they are consuming in the club, the whole feel of this music reminds me of gangsta rap, trying so damn hard to act tough and ready to kick ass/bust some caps. Another similarity between the two is at times while they lack lyrical/musical skill, they make up with it in entertainment value. It's like power metal, minus the talent.

While hardcore isn't the most innovative genre, you'd think after seven years Hatebreed would get tired of playing the same old style. The facts remain that hardcore, in general, sounds a lot alike, and there isn't much originality present in the genre. This causes only the really great stuff to stand out, which isn't the case here whatsoever. With new scientific technology, I was able to convert one of the tracks, Doomsayer, into text format. It is a fine example of what can be expected from the twelve tracks that sound the same:

*echo in*

Your doom awaits you!

*quick metal guitar riff*

*double bass*

Cast down! Defeated! Never to rise! Cast down! Defeated! Never to rise...again!

*more double bass*

*phat metal guitar riffage*

*drum roll*

I'll be your doomsayer! *Evil voice shadows over doomsayer* Motherfucker! Your doom awaits you!

*quick metal guitar riff*

*double bass*

Cast down! Defeated! Never to rise! Cast down! Defeated! Never to rise...again!

*more double bass*

*phat metal guitar riffage*

*silence*

YOUR DOOM AWAITS YOU!

*sick ass dope mega phat breakdown*

If you want to listen to music with hateful lyrics, listen to The Suicide File. If you want to listen to music that's heavy with lots of breakdowns, listen to First Blood. But if you want to listen to mosh music with stupid fighting lyrics, Rise Of Brutality has everything you need plus an evil voice that shadows the word doomsayer. I'd suggest listening to Hatebreed if you like Terror or Hoods, but if you like those; you've already heard this band and love it. More badass music for your local frat boy to kick ass to.

To me, Hatebreed mark the pinnacle, as well as the end of an era for Victory Records. Satisfaction is the Death of Desire was the epitome of mid-90's hardcore: mosh heavy, distrusting, and pissed. Since then, Hatebreed as well as Victory Records have not necessarily become less credible (Victory had none anyways), but definitely watered down and weaker than their … Read more
