It's been an interesting road for Lords since their formation by Chris Owens about five years ago. Initially boasting members of underrated The National Acrobat and other notable Louisville groups, from the get-go the band delivered an unrelenting concoction of noisy hardcore that the city's scene is often noted for. Along the way members have come and gone, most recently picking up former members of Coliseum and Lickgoldensky for their latest incarnation while Owens has been the one mainstay.

After some recent label difficulties - which are evident once you pop this CD in and listen to the first track - Lords return with their second full-length. And on their latest release the Louisville-based outfit continues to develop the plan set forth on their first EP's as well as the preceding Swords.

Fuck All Y'all Motherfuckers picks right up with they left off on their last recording. "Robbed, Raped and Beaten" is a ruckus raising minute slab of noisy metal-accented hardcore. The riffs are scorching and the rhythm section rolls like an out of control eighteen-wheeler. "Why I Don't Give a Fuck" is equally as destructive on the ears as it continues to assault. This pretty much sums up the entire sound offered up on the record.

Lords stick to the standard of relentless noise-laden hardcore. These songs basically sound like an aural fistfight between The Jesus Lizard, Slayer, Black Flag, and Sonic Youth. Cuts like "Fucking With Fire" and "Man, Everything Sucks" are prime examples of this. And while there is the appeal of something fierce on the cover, if you pay closer attention to the music, you can begin to pick out details within the chaos, something that proves this menacing sound is much more controlled than it originally appears at first glance.

Fuck All Y'all Motherfuckers is an album that for the most part hits, but there are those occasional moments where you feel the band is just not varied enough to keep the music fresh. Before you know it, several tracks can run by and you're left wondering just how many you've missed. Nevertheless, Lords have offered up a solid outing that, like many others that have been held in limbo, I am glad finally got released.

Swords
Jade Tree (2005)

Don't blink, or it will all be over before you even realize what hit you. Swords is what a hit and run car wreck feels and sounds like. The group Lords has been a roadwarrioring (yes, I made this word up and I am trademarking it) group of semi-Hessian sound miscreants for quite some time. After two equally disturbing EP's … Read more
