Recipe: Mental Gymnast Self-Titled
Creator: Mental Gymnast
Cookbook: Say-10 Recipes
Copyright: 2/27/26

Ingredients:

1 Very Ripe Adam Gecking on Vocals
1 Stick Unsalted Erica Clayton on Bass
2 Slices Scotty Sandwich (1 Slice Guitar, 1 Slice Drums)
1 Dash Chris Ruckus on Synths

Directions:

*Preheat the recording studio to 65 degrees.

Add all of the ingredients together in “One Big Dark Room.” Begin mixing at high speed in a circle pit motion. Fully incorporate everything.
If you don’t pay attention in step “Two Legs Band” - you’ll have inconsistency issues. Focus on wishing for a better future.
Just when you are about to say “Fuck This Forever,” you will be halfway through the process.
Remove the dough and continue to “Beat It” on a floured surface. Drum roll out until there is one second left.
“Lucy” chop the dough into 5 single songs. Add the synth right at the end.
Bake at scorching heat for 6 minutes or until your eardrums start to blacken around the edges.

*Future Substitutions - Jon Greco on guitar, Sam Freeman on drums.

Comments: This recipe was super easy to digest. With a total cook time of just over 6 minutes, I made it over and over again. It was enjoyable every single time. Will recommend to family and friends at my next gathering.

The Remote Controls

Too Tough
Fail Harmonic Records, Mom’s Basement Records (2025)

There’s a certain kind of punk band that doesn’t overthink things. No reinvention, no genre-bending manifesto, just fast songs, big hooks, and enough attitude to carry it all. Indianapolis’ The Remote Controls lean hard into that tradition on Too Tough, a record that feels less like a statement and more like a well-earned victory lap. Built on a steady diet … Read more

Don’t Say Please: The Oral History of Die Kreuzen
Feral House (2026)

For those of us who spent the mid-to-late 1980s navigating basement community halls, churches, and loveable, armpit-smelling dive bars, the name Die Kreuzen was a permanent fixture on the punk rock radar. They were the sound of the Midwest underground --too fast for the goths to do their spooky Bela Lugosi "shoo the bats away" interpretive dance, too technical for … Read more

Sewer Urchin

Global Urination
Independent (2025)

There’s a fine line between crossover thrash that feels dangerous and crossover thrash that just feels like a party. Global Urination doesn’t bother choosing because it does both loudly and without apology. St. Louis’ Sewer Urchin have been grinding since 2019, and on their latest full length they double down on everything that makes the genre work. They give us … Read more
