Sakes Alive!! hails from Rochester, NY and this is the band's debut offering. Interesting enough, this recording actually started as the project of one individual, Chris Vandeviver. I'm not sure who told him to enlist other members and make this a full-time venture, but bravo to whoever did.

The EP delivers what is an even mixture of the No Idea punk (Glass and Ashes, Hot Water Music) and progressive hardcore (Modern Life is War, Life Long Tragedy) over three songs featuring Vandeviver's throaty vocals. There is an undeniable honesty evoked through the music and lyrics, none that ring truer than that of "Rider's United." I especially enjoyed the following lyrics, "Let's be reckless riders of the roads already chose / Nomads who drift from place to place / To follow their hopes / I want to thumb my nose, cut all my ties / So I can celebrate my fucking life."

Sakes Alive!! are onto something and this three-song EP proves it. You can grab a copy for only one dollar. So if you're into the music, hit them up.
