Is this what you kids call "screamo" nowadays? I don't know and I don't care. As far as I'm concerned all music should be split into two genres: the one I like and the one I don't. This album would then fall under the second category, well the first band at least.

The album is a split between two bands: Stars are Falling and Skylines. Both bands follow a similar pattern in their musicianship, only the first one is more wimpy and the second one's more... err, heavy.

Stars are Falling - I'm sure you've heard plenty of similar bands to them, even on MTV. They are the type that scream, scream, scream and then break out into bed-wetting wimpy vocals. Pathetic. I never understood why some bands do it. Their musicianship seems on par, but does it amount to anything? Nothing but torture to sit through four songs to write this review. Moving on.

Skylines - This one seems more decent than the first band. At least their music has more balls. They also seem to fall into the tracks of the increasingly popular style of Isis and Neurosis. God, please forgive me for mentioning Isis and Neurosis in this review, as neither of the bands deserve to have these names next to theirs. Oh well, at least they are trying. The music goes from crushing riffs into soothing melodies with good execution and some interesting hooks. I could get into this.

This is by far the worst review I have ever written, but then again, this is probably the worst album I've had a misfortune to write about, mostly thanks to Stars are Falling. Skylines are worth checking out, but I'd advise to do it separately as the first band ruins the experience. I'm giving it a 2.0 because Stars are Falling dragged the ranking down. I'm done here, good night.

Joyce Manor

I Used To Go To This Bar
Epitaph (2026)

Surely by now, you’ve heard their name. Joyce Manor have been writing soundtracks for heartbreaks and hangovers for nearly two decades now. They create short songs with their hearts on their sleeves, while sticking to that distinct Southern California mix of self-deprecation and sincerity. From the lo-fi charm of their 2011 debut to Never Hungover Again’s cult-classic status and the … Read more

La Luz

Extra! Extra!
Sub Pop (2026)

Formed in 2012, La Luz built their reputation on hypnotic surf-noir, eerie harmonies, and a uniquely supernatural warmth that made them one of Sub Pop’s most consistently compelling bands. Their 2024 full-length News of the Universe marked a major artistic shift. The sound became lush, cosmic, dust-covered, and produced by Maryam Qudus, whose work helped push the band into its … Read more

Night Of The Living Dead Dolls
Cleopatra (2025)

Dead Boys, or should I say Dead Dolls (no, not those creepy little Dolls that were mass produced for wannabe Wednesdays). Johnny Blitz had just been stabbed on the streets of New York. A benefit was created to raise funds to help the fallen comrade, known as the Blitz benefit. Look it up, plebeians. Anyways cue in snot, attitude and … Read more
