Tomorrow We Sail is the perfect title for a band that seemed to have taken me on a journey. From the moment I turned on song one, “The Well & the Tide” I felt like I had been swept on an adventurous trek through mountain and sea. I closed my eyes and imagined myself in places I’d have seen on The Lord of the Rings. This kind of music is similar to a soundtrack you may hear in many epic stories. Using your creative mind you may be able to listen and imagine an entire movie unfolding behind your eyes. If you are a fan of RPG games this might be some good background music for you.
Perhaps my favorite part of the album is the beautiful harmonizing that happens in “Eventide.” I love hearing the deep rich voices of the male part’s contrasting with the heavenly, soft voices of the female counterparts' there is something very relaxing there. If you need to center yourself and take a moment to reflect, these songs are great in your headphones while basking in the sun and enjoying nature.
Don’t be fooled, though. There are unexpected moments where the music becomes much more energetic. In “December” you can hear the foreshadowing that something is coming, something major. The climax to the story, the huge battle, and you can hear it unfold in the way the instruments are played. I imagine a great sword fight, many are lost, it is both painful and at the end victorious. As the album comes to the end in the last few songs you can feel sorrow, peace, and tranquility flowing through the lyrics and music.
Overall I really enjoyed the ambiance Tomorrow We Sail created with For Those Who Caught the Sun in Flight. The only things that were negatives weren’t major but I did feel like some songs were quite long. “For Rosa” had a very long intro with no lyrics until over four minutes in. For some people that choose this type of music that may not be a flaw--it may be a positive. In order to come up with my score I decided to imagine myself with a stack of cds and where would I find this album on that stack. Personally this would wind up somewhere near the upper area but not at the very top. So for me, rates a 7.6. At the very least you should check it out once and see how it makes you feel.
