Brutal Truth/Total Fucking Destruction (Richrd Hoak)

What are your top five albums that were released in 2008?

  1. Insek - Maaiers
  2. Abiku - Left
  3. Abiku - Right
  4. Misery Index - Traitors
  5. FU - Love Children

What band did you discover in 2008 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?

I met and saw Abiku for the first time in 2008. I went to a show to see another band and when I walked in Abiku were playing; I didn't even know they were playing, but they blew me away with their totally original synthesis of death metal, disco and noise. Abiku has a fresh sound and a great attitude, cool people as well. Abiku is significant because there are not many bands that are awesome and original these days!

How will you remember 2008? (In terms of music)

2008 will be remember by me for the continuing disruption of business as usual in the music industry by technology that allow musicians to communicate directly to their listeners, hell yeah!

Vinyl record sales saw a significant increase this year while hard copy sales continued to dwindle. Is this a return to the glory days for vinyl or just a phase? Explain.

I don't think vinyl will return to its glory days, but I don't think it will disappear either. Digital formats can replace CDs (and hopefully they will as soon as possible), but not vinyl!

What was the most memorable moment for you in 2008? (Can be in terms

of anything)

The continuing lack of dignity and respect for the individual human being and for planet Earth by corporate world-state.

What can we look forward to from you in 2009?

A celebration of the slow motion apocalypse in the form of a Total Fucking Destruction world tour.

What three records are you looking forward to most in 2009?

The new Brutal Truth CD, Spoonful Of Vicodin's full-length, and Black Ganion "First."

One Question Interviews • March 2, 2026

Greg Norton (Ultrabomb) SPB: Has the current political climate affected Ultrabomb and did it influence lyrical content? Norton: Yes, absolutely. I’d say 80% of the lyrics for this album were written last summer as Trump was rolling out his gestapo squads, and the media’s lack of response to accurately reporting.  Read more
