Sarah (Quattracenta)
SPB: Which of your songs is the most difficult to play live?
Sarah: “In Dust,” from our new record III. It’s not necessarily difficult in a technical sense, but because it is a very quiet and intimate song, playing it in a noisy club or bar can be a real challenge. We have a lot of songs with loud, intense dynamics, so it’s sometimes hard to find space for “In Dust” within the set. While the majority of our audience is always respectful of and attentive to the momentum shift, more often than not, there’s still going to be “that guy” yelling at the bar. Trying to dig deep, connect to a feeling, and emote to communicate with a room full of people can definitely be tough with that type of interference. Luckily, there is a bigger ending to the song where the quiet gives way to a surge in volume, which is always a satisfying and cathartic experience in and of itself.
