Davey Quinn (Tiltwheeel, Dan Padilla, Too Many Daves, International Dipshit)

What are your top five albums that were released in 2010? (In order 1-5)

there is no order to this. this is what i listen to the most in the last couple weeks

  • Arrivals, Volatile Molotov
  • Superchunk, Majesty Shredding
  • Grabass Charlestons / Toys That Kill split
  • Leatherface, Stormy Petrel
  • Iron Chic, Not Like This
What band did you discover in 2010 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?

So many great bands have crossed paths this year, Muhammed Ali, Year Zero, Unfun, Last Years, The Situation but the thing that sticks out the most Grabass Charlestons moving Will to guitar and vox. to watch a band you love adding a new dimension is inspiring and gives me more ammunition in the war on "punk is dead"

in addition, NQ Arbuckle has made me cry more times than raw onions and Bhut Jolokia, Given me hope and said things i could never say

How will you remember 2010? (In terms of music)

It was nice to FINALLY feel like something was accomplished on the personal front again. Dan Padilla, Too Many Daves, Pop Atak and Tiltwheel all managed to get something out this year. Bloodbath and Beyond got together and played a show! it reminds me of the year period where Everready, Tiltwheel and the Rats all got something out. Reminds me of the "Year Of Vinyl" a couple years back. Being able to tour with Leatherface again and see a new record come out. Alison and I gave birth to International Dipshit this year and I'm so happy to be playing music with her! Towards the end of the year Bryan Ready and I have been talking and we want to at play music together again.

i hate to divide and pick faves but if i had to, the shows i will remember most this year were brought to me by Andrew Penner and friends, NQ Arbuckle, Grabass Charlestons and GBV

this morning i listened to an old pal Lana Rebel and I think thats going to be my segue soundtrack 2010/11

With more and more bands switching to digital methods of releasing music and communicating with audiences in 2010, do you think there's still a place for physical CDs and word-of-mouth shows in the future?

I'll tell you this, hey punks, please stop this cassette tape shit immediately. yes there is a place for CDs as a reliable storage media. cassette tapes are horrible on so many levels, sound quality, environmental, equipment required, longevity... please stop

san diego operates on a word of mouth level for the most part, at least our little slice. as shitty as massive online communities go we can book a show and get people to go to the show and have a great time in a matter of hours. nothing wrong with that. technology is what you make of it. There is nothing wrong with using it to support your community. yeah i miss flyers. no i dont miss stacks of flyers littering the streets.

What can we look forward to from you in 2011?

my first focus is to record international dipshit and get somethign out. I really wanted to get it done this year but sometimes theres a bottle in the way. I also want to get some daves stuff done before Dave D becomes a dad. hopefully more dan padilla stuff and i'm already starting to write stuff for tiltwheel. cancelling the European tour was such a heartbreak I'm honestly scared the band wont recover, that I won't recover and I'll end it. I think we turn 19 this year, maybe 20 according to some bio i just read. , i'm pretty close to packing it in and making a big scrapbook. i hope next year's touring and writing output betrays that feeling.

What three records are you looking forward to most in 2011?

Sunparlour Players, Grabass Charlestons and Cheapgirls
