Top 5 Reasons Why Paramnesia Records Is the Label of 2006 After Only Two Releases

by Cory

1. The Releases Themselves

Paramnesia Records' first release came in early 2006 in the vinyl form of Pyramids' Following the Tracks, Forcing Motion Through Phases an amazing, hardcore epic. June saw the release of the split between The One AM Radio and The Wind-Up Bird on vinyl, an album that had always been talked about being put onto vinyl but had never actually been done until Paramnesia Records made the commitment.

2. The Layouts

Beautiful is really the only way you can describe the layouts of the first two Paramnesia Records releases. While other labels may be cautious with their first release, Paramnesia went absolutely all out, making the Pyramids record come out on blue marbled vinyl, along with gatefold covers. The One AM Radio/The Wind-Up Bird split features two different colors of vinyl, along with amazing covers of a winter landscape. Did I already say beautiful?

3. The Personal Messages and Quotes

Each Paramnesia release features a full insert written by Mike Brennan, who runs the record label. The inserts give us a full glimpse into the process of making the records, the story behind the label, and finally a quote that sums up the release. The quote from the One AM Radio/The Wind-Up Bird, written in a zine by Clint Woodside, struck me particularly strong: "It's true that there is a flux. Sometimes we get more excited about this life, and sometimes we get less...but it is always here for us. And that's the point."

4. The Pre-Orders

I always find it somewhat odd when labels give you the chance to pre-order a record, but add no incentive to do so. This is no worry when ordering from Paramnesia Records, however, as each pre-order comes with a full color, hand numbered, screen print. Collector nerds rejoice!

5. The Promise

After having two fantastic releases, all we can do is wait with excitement at what Paramnesia Records has in store for us next. With future releases including the debut LP from In First Person (all packaging will be hand screened, of course), and a split between Belegost and Maple Rabbit, the future looks promising for Paramnesia Records.

NOTE: SPB is not being paid to promote Paramnesia Records. We're just fanboys.
