New Details Emerge Concerning Wolves in the Throne Room's Latest Release

More information on the forthcoming release from epic black metal act Wolves in the Throne Room have been divulged. For starters, the title of the new record is Celestite and it’s being described as a “parallel-universe version” of 2011’s Celestial Lineage. The other big news surrounding the impending release is that the album will feature no drums or vocals. Really.

“There are no drums and no vocals. Rather, deep, heavy crystalline synthesizer journeying, Eno-inspired analog processing and arcane acoustic instrumentation expand upon dimensions folded within the universe of Celestial Lineage,” the press release states.

As The Weavers explain in the same press release, “We left some work undone with Celestial Lineage. The recording of that album in the Winter of 2011 was a monumental project for us personally, and the creative fire from those recording sessions was still burning. This recording process was an opportunity to journey into our own inner universe to complete that which needed to be completed.”

Celestite will also be the first release on the group’s new label, Diadem Records. An official release date has yet to be announced.

Malevolent Grain
Southern Lord (2009)

Each song of the Malevolent Grain EP, "A Looming Resonance" and "Hate Crystal," comprises one side of an exquisitely packaged 12". Both songs are top-notch examples of the more hypnotic and earthy side of black metal. "A Looming Resonance" builds from a somber clean melody to some kind of operatic, backwoods hymn to the forces of nature. "Hate Crystal," however, … Read more

Two Hunters
Southern Lord (2007)

The terms "stripped-down," "raw," and "black metal" are certainly no strangers to each other. Musically speaking, some of the best known bands and albums feature less-than-lackluster production and songwriting, a standard set by older bands such as Darkthrone and Burzum, even if unintentionally. Visually and characteristically though, most black metal bands are infamous for being over-the-top, what with all the … Read more
