Vulgar Display of Purring awareness program launched
design by Matt Stikker

A new non-profit initiative named And Justice For Paws... was recently launched by Bob Legowe, co-owner of Brutal Panda Records. The initiative will raise money and awareness for domestic and wild cats, all with a heavy metal twist. The series aims to release a fundraising metal compilation in each of the 50 states, kicking off with a New York edition that features songs by Tombs, Imperial Triumphant, Car Bomb, Unearthly Trance, and more (listed in full below).

Besides the compilation, there will be merchandise such as patches and custom catnip containers for sale online.

Lugowe shares his inspiration for the project:

Like many people, animals and music are two of my biggest passions and I've always strived to find the perfect way to combine the two for a greater good. I decided there was no better way to do this than showcase like-minded bands and artists who are equally impassioned about their pets and want to make a difference in their local scene. I've started by partnering up with City Critters in NYC from whom I adopted my wonderfully weird orange furball Mr. Fink. We could all stand to learn more from animals and I hope that these compilations and silly merchandise will play even a tiny role in doing just that.

Stalking the Ghost
Relapse (2017)

To my mind Unearthly Trance was the act that truly defined the doom/sludge push of the '00s. Starting off with their debut album, Seasons of Seance, Science of Silence they displayed a claustrophobic, catastrophic drone induced version at a time where the push was towards the more fun side of doom/stoner. Through the years they kept evolving, switching from the … Read more

All Empires Fall
Relapse (2016)

Since their inception back in 2007, Tombs have been in a phase of constant turmoil. Band members have been changed multiple times, with mainman Mike Hill the only original member still in the band. A similar sort of change has been undergoing along the works of the band, with their style. Starting out as a post-black metal act with the … Read more

Winter Hours
Relapse (2009)

Following their promising self-titled debut and their split with the European band Planks, Tombs drops Winter Hours (their debut for new label Relapse Records) onto an increasingly anticipatory public. Mike Hill (guitarist and vocalist) assembles a new lineup for this album, possibly out of necessity due to attrition or maybe just to possibly add different sounds to the band's palette. … Read more

Unearthly Trance is not your usual extreme metal band. Since day one, and the release of their debut album, they have been alchemically working towards their own unique sound. The break-up in 2012 might left some fans disheartened, but the release of Stalking the Ghost this year has definitely made … Read more
