Jeff Hanneman (Slayer) passes from liver failure

Longtime Slayer guitarist and songwriter Jeff Hanneman passed away on Thursday from liver failure.

Hanneman, 49, had not toured with the group since early 2011 when he contracted necrotizing fasciitis, a disease that eats away at tissue. It was most likely caused by a spider bite. Gary Holt of Exodus has been filling in during the meantime.

Visit the band's facebook page to show your support. He is survived by his wife of 16 years and three siblings.
