Official press release:
End of a Year will be playing Louisville, KY's Krazy Fest Friday May 20th alongside such notables as Tigers Jaw, Bane, and Against Me! Be there or be square.
The band has just returned from a weekend at Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston, Jamaica. Tuff Gong is known the world over as the studio founded by Bob Marley and the site he recorded many of his most famous tracks. "We like reggae and we like music history and it beats the shit out of going to one of the same five studios every band in the US insists on using," explains Patrick Kindlon, EOAY's vocalist.
End of a Year plan on making the trip an annual one (sort of). "So begins our 'Island Sessions' series of singles," says Kindlon, "once a year we'll record a couple songs on an island. This year Jamaica, next year, I dunno, England? Haiti? Clerke Rocks? We'll try to do mix of famous studios and lesser-known spots. Anyone know anyone in Madripoor?"
The band graciously requests you update your iTunes libraries to accommodate their new moniker "End of a Year Self Defense Family." While the group has been using the name during live performances for over a year, they've picked now as the time to make it official. “Wack name; time to change," is how Kindlon sums it up. "We wanted to change the name to just Self Defense Family years ago, but the problem has been that we've always got some stock of records sitting at one label or another and changing the name screws those people who have been kind enough to put us out because it rebrands and makes our already difficult-to-sell records more difficult to sell. But right now we've got a bunch of material ready to go and it's a good time to sell that old farm and buy that new condo. The Self Defense condo. Never again will we have to clarify "no, no, end of A year. A year, not the," when customs officials or girlfriend's parents ask what band we play in."
Deathwish Inc. will be releasing the first in the island series a single featuring the songs "I'm Going Through Some Shit' b/w "All Fruit Is Ripe" later this year.
