Accused of sexual assault, Young and in the Way disband

Posted by Loren on February 26, 2018

Amid multiple accusations of sexual assault from a past tour in Detroit, Young and in the Way have announced their immediate breakup as a band.

The uproar began when accusers issued statements seeking the band's removal from festival lineups, which escalated to their being dropped by Deathwish, Inc. and, later, an official statement from the band that denies allegations while announcing their breakup.

Interested parties can read the statement on the band's Facebook page.

Deathwish, meanwhile, told Brooklyn Vegan:

In light of the recent allegations against YAITW, Deathwish Inc. has severed ties with the band and is no longer working with them. We’ve spoken with the women who have come forward, and want to make it clear that we stand with the survivors. We hope that sends an echo far and wide that predatory behavior and sexual assault is not and will not be tolerated in our music scene.

SPB encourages anyone who has experienced sexual assault to stay strong and to seek appropriate medical and mental health assistance from resources available in your community.
