Citric Dummies might be the band I saw live the most often in 2025, yet I put off a thorough review of their latest LP until the calendar turned to 2026.
Anyway, Split With Turnstile, besides having a great title, continues the band's garage-punk sound that draws from a deep array of influences from eggpunk to '80s hardcore while mostly staying true to the melodic-focus, loud, angry and under 3-minute format.
The songs are equally angry and funny, which is a perfect formula that many bands try, but few succeed at. On the surface, it's angry and energetic music and when you listen closer the jokes land. It doesn't try to do too much, letting the tone speak for itself to great effect. It's highly cynical and self-deprecatory, never pulling any punches.
"I Can't Stand The Weekend" is a punk rock anthem, "I Can't Relate" is full of punk rock piss 'n' vinegar, "Bozo Brain" is a raw rager, and "Cruisin' For The Dead" is a hyper caffeinated eggpunk track that's emblematic of the overall sound: one driven by an intense rhythm section that's mixed evenly with the guitar and vocals. It's loud and intense with a lot of bite, and it never lets up -- even for a second.
