The Melvins are becoming one of the most prolific bands of any in recent memory. One could speculate on the reasons for this, but ultimately it could probably be chalked up to the lack of constraints on their music.

The Melvins can pretty much do whatever the fuck they want and Basses Loaded is no exception. Taking their revolving roster to a whole new level, Buzz and Dale have seemingly decided to go all-out-roulette and enlist the help of six different folks to assist on the low end - including Nirvana's Krist Novoselic and Redd Kross' Steve McDonald.

Neither of whom are strangers in the Chateau Melvins of course - none are. But together they're all here to give us one of the more experimental efforts from the band. And anyone familiar with the band knows THAT'S saying something.

Basses loaded begins with The "Decay of Lying", a six minute dirge that sets the player at 16rpm. This is followed by a variety of tunes of varying tempos and choices. I promise you this is the only album you'll buy this year with both a Beatles cover, a rendition on "Take Me Out To The Ballgame". Strap those on with tunes like "War Pussy" and "Captain Come Down" and you're off to the races.
