Scouts Honor

Jared Grabb

Scene Point Blank: What are your top five albums that were released in 2007?

  1. Kanye West - Graduation
  2. Feist - The Reminder
  3. Maritime - Heresy and the Hotel Choir
  4. Smoke or Fire - This Sinking Ship
  5. Empty Orchestra - Here Lies Empty Orchestra

Four albums I wish I had picked up earlier to consider for the top five:

  1. Gaslight Anthem - Sick or Swim
  2. Torche - In Return
  3. Pig Destroyer - Phantom Limb
  4. Achilles - Hospice

Scene Point Blank: How will you remember 2007? (In terms of music)

I'll remember it as the year that the nail was driven into the coffin of physical copies of music. In any commercial sense, that is. I'll also remember it as the second time that Scouts Honor didn't exist for the summer.

Scene Point Blank: What kind of impact do you think donation-based releases like Radiohead, Saul Williams, etc? will have on the record industry?

I don't really think they will have much impact. The bands are being innovative, but I think people like to be told how much something costs or they're already getting it through other means.

Scene Point Blank: 2007 saw the decommissioning of two prominent file-sharing groups - Demonoid and Oink. What kind of impact will the increased crackdown on file-sharing have on the record industry? Did it personally have an effect on you?

I don't think it will have a large effect on the industry. Napster was replaced. They will be replaced as well. If people have the knowledge and capabilities to share, they will find a way to share. It had no effect on me.

Scene Point Blank: What can we look forward to from your band in 2008?

Scouts Honor will be heading to SXSW in March and Germany in May for a tour with Madstateworld. We're also writing a new album with hopes of a release in late 2008.

Scene Point Blank: What three records are you looking forward to most in 2008?

Polar Bear Club's Sometimes Things Just Disappear, Kingdom of Magic, and I'll know it when I hear it?
