Adam (Pilkington)

SPB: In the past the vocals were a shared duty. This approach is almost completely abandoned. What changed?

Adam: We were lucky to have a few different really talented songwriters in the band. Becca had started writing more as we prepped for our LP and was beginning to come up with some of the tracks that would end up being favorites of ours on the record.

Honestly though, I think the big change happened when we played a Halloween tribute band show as Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Everyone got super into character and it was a blast. We made a band trip to the local thrift store that day and looked for the finest ‘80s attire we could find. Lots of hairspray and hair gel involved too. Anyways, Becca went full method actor on that Joan Jett frontwoman role and really took the reins leading the band from there on out. Minus the hairspray though.

Unseemlier

It was about a year ago I discovered Unseemlier, shortly before the release of I Have A Screw Loose, Somewhere. It's a wordy title and a somewhat unwieldy band name -- and I’ll use that “a lot going on in a little space” metaphor even further to talk about the … Read more

Guest List: War On Women

Music / The Set List • April 24, 2026

It feels like a lifetime ago when Mitt Romney referenced a "war on women" during the 2012 presidential cycle. A lot has changed, a lot has stayed the same -- but a new politically-charged band formed in the aftermath of that comment, calling themselves War On Women. Now, roughly 14 … Read more

Independent (2020)

Pilkington's self-titled debut is at the same time their swansong. It serves as a testimony to the good time the band had together as a band. As they were recording this album back in 2018 the band members uprooted and spread out. This was basically the end of the band.Reading this information in the press sheet I was a bit … Read more

Soft Flesh
Black RD Records (2017)

On to the next single. Again we start with it's title track, of course: "Soft Flesh." This is the song that lured me into reviewing these singles. On "Soft Flesh" (the song) Pilkington uses a casiotone and they use it well. From the first second I was hooked. To finish the song of the guitar work here is very surfy … Read more

All Around The Neighborhood
Black RD Records (2017)

Singles are something I usually avoid when reviewing. I find it difficult to say something that makes sense with so little to work with. For Pilkington I’ve made an exception. They offered me two singles. The four songs combined clock in at almost 14 minutes. I can deal with that! Pilkington is an indie band from Philadelphia. They released their … Read more
