Jono Giralt (Stress Positions – drums)

SPB: Walk us through your drum kit and how you arrived at your sizes, etc.

Giralt: I play on a Tama Starrclassic. All Bubinga shells. 12”, 18”, and 24”. Charcoal grey, I guess? They look nice. I’ve been playing the Ludwig raw copper phonic snare. 6.5”x14”. Honestly the best snare I’ve ever played. Even if you tune it like shit, it still sounds good.

This is definitely not my ideal setup. It’s a good one and I like it, however it’s a little dated for me. I got this kit a while back when I was playing in more of a screamo band called Knife Hits.

The ideal set up is a 13,16,22 Ludwig Vistalite. For live performances especially, this is definitely more of the style. Playing real fast on the larger shells can definitely be a bit more tiring. It sounds sick, and luckily our sets are normally on the short side, but a smaller kit is soon to come. Maybe next record.
