UK-based label Lockjaw Records will release a fundraising compilation for Black Lives Matter on August 27, with 13 bands announced at present, including Drones, La Armada, Belvedere, Straightline, Edward in Venice, and more. All profits will go to Black Minds Matter Charity (UK) and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund (US) in furtherance of the cause.

Label manager Lesley-Anne O'Brien explains:

The punk and hardcore scene is really white. We felt the best way to address the issue of representation was to create a compilation that features tracks from people of colour within the punk genre, and tracks from outside the genre that have a "punk attitude" & energy. We need to look outside of our scene and we can hopefully find some commonalities which we can enjoy and celebrate. And of course, we've got some great tracks from bands in the scene dealing with themes of anti-racism and social justice.

The label is also selling posters and t-shirts to raise additional funds.

Let’s just say that every act of imperialism is unique but combining listening to this record definitely highlights the brutal impact when a state tries to conquer a people. This record isn’t just political hardcore. It seethes with anger and inherited trauma. It’s a fucking bloodletting. … Read more

La Armada

Anti-Colonial Vol. 1
Creep Records (2018)

I usually lean more melodic than heavy in my daily listening. But there’s a time and place for everything, and La Armada definitely hit that craving for pure vitriolic aggression. The Chicago by way of Dominican Republic band play metal-tinged hardcore that’s blunt, brutal and angry. While there are metallic influences in the guitar, the songs are always under 3-minutes … Read more
