A new book titled Deconstructing Towers: The Story of Hydra Head Records will publish in December, via Decibel Books. The book is written by music journalist (and bassist in Great Falls) Shane Mehling, and tells the story of the Aaron Turner (Neurosis/Isis) founded label, beginning in the mid 1990s.
“I am grateful to Mr. Mehling for diving headlong into the detritus left in the wake of Hydra Head’s existence, to all the folks who took the time to talk with him about it, and who made it what is was in the first place: a sprawling, ungovernable, ferocious and (hopefully) endearing beast," Turner says in a press release.
The label released records by ISIS, Cave In, Botch, Converge, Pelican, Torche, Jesu, Old Man Gloom, and many more.
The label was influential to Scene Point Blank's staff as well. Enjoy some SPB Hydra Head archives.
