Ohio's Mixtapes, currently on hiatus, are offering the free rarities compilation These Are Us for free download via Paper + Plastik.

"I was at Eric's house the other day, who is the guy that recorded and engineered all of the Mixtapes records. We were going through stuff and joking around and realized we had quite a few songs no one had ever heard, including myself more than once or twice. A few of them I thought 'why on earth didn't we put this on a record?'" the band says of the new offering.

Ordinary Silence
No Sleep (2013)

It’s still a bit hard to grasp what grabs me about Even on the Worst Nights. It finally clicked, though, as I drove through rural Minnesota prairie towns, stopping at the varied towns’ lone stoplights and taking in the familiar quiet downtowns and the fading paintjobs. Thematically the record reminisces on the longing of a small town youth trying to find … Read more

Even On The Worst Nights
No Sleep (2012)

Even on the Worst Nights beams with positivity. Sure, a closer listen will reveal a lot of sarcasm in the sugar-pop sound, but the first impression is one of balloons and puppy dogs, not shaking one’s fists in anger or letting loose a crippling, agonizing scream. The Cincinnati, OH band is clean and crisp, with singalongs, brevity, and self-awareness as … Read more

Fest recaps are tough. It’s a 4-day* event with over 400 bands. By my spotty count, I saw at least 42 bands and 7 comedians and I’m sure those numbers aren’t accurate. I had some holes in my daily schedules that I wandered about town, ate foods, met up with … Read more
