Democratic For The People: 22 Georgia covers
various artists - Democratic For The People

As musicians continue to use their voices for change, Todd Farrell of Benchmarks (Nashville, TN), has curated a 22-song collection of artists covering songs originally by Georgia musicians. Featuring recordings by Austin Lucas, Nato Coles & the Blue Diamond Band, Benchmarks, Orphan Riot, The Right Here, and more, the album is titled Democratic For the People with proceeds going to Fair Fight organization.

“This project was born out of a love for the art and culture of my old home state of Georgia, and a need to contribute to the fight happening down there. With the current Senate runoff race happening, the fight down there affects everyone,” Farrells says of putting the compilation together, which released a week ago on Dec. 4.

When O Brother, Where Art Thou sold over seven million copies, you knew that people were listening and that the soundtrack would have an influence on future music. To be completely honest, I know more about Austin Lucas than I do about his current residence in The Czech Republic, which doesn't attest too much besides my ignorance of The Czech Republic. I know Lucas was born in the United States and moved, has played in crust and grind bands, and has worked with Chuck Ragan. Not necessarily the … Read more

Nato Coles (Nato Coles & the Blue Diamond Band) SPB: What are your expectations for the Replacements reunion? Coles: The Replacements were one of the greatest rock'n'roll bands of all-time, no exaggeration, so I'm sure they'll sound good playing those songs, and I hope Slim's doing better. I suppose anything … Read more
