Fishboy has a new album coming April 2. Titled Waitsgiving, the record follows the creative process of project leader Eric Michener. The concept is well explained by the lead single, "Snocone Creator," which premiered this week. The song tells the story of a boy who creates a new snow cone flavor based on songs he hears on the radio, an apt metaphor for the songwriter's own creative process and struggles. Check it out below.
Fishboy explains:
It felt like was playing a very difficult video game with unlimited lives. By the time I got to the chorus I kind of collapsed in exhaustion. The whole time I was thinking of this kid in the story, stuck in his tiny box, determined to make the greatest flavor of all time by somehow brut-forcing his creativity. We get a hint that at the end of the song he maybe learns to chill out (pun intended) a bit and appreciate the beauty around him for a second.
The song was written by Michener during his daily commmute to work, recording segments on his phone a line or two at a time. It also features features Sean Bonnette (AJJ) on backing bvocals. Waitsgiving releases on Lauren Records.
